Who is your role model?
Sounds cheesy but my parents. They have been married for 40 years, they work and play together and have shown me that life isn’t about winning a contest. It’s about sharing experiences with people you love. When times are hard my Mom reminds me that it is about the journey and not the destination.
What is your perfect day?
Riding fresh pow with good friends and no one gets lost, followed by a hot delicious Japanese home cooked meal. Oh and someone gets it all on film so we can always relive that day.
Of all the places that snowboarding has taken you, where would you live?
Well I married a Kiwi, New Zealander, this year and since we have been together I have toured a lot of the country. Every corner is breathtaking; it’s a hard decision on where to live Canada vs New Zealand
Which snowboarder do you admire most, or who motivates you and why?
Honestly, Shaun White. He brought snowboarding into the mainstream and therefore boosted the industry. I have ridden with him and he hardly complains, works hard and is respectful of the other riders and his fans. He has proven this longevity in the sport and that’s impressive.
What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season?
I am looking forward to going back to Japan for a World Cup. They haven’t held one in years because they did not have a 22ft halfpipe. It’s one of my favorite countries and I have planned a powder trip for after the contest ☺
What goals do you have and expect to accomplish?
Lately I have been working on consulting for other athletes. Not all consulting is on snow, a lot of it is social media, websites and finding funding. Since I qualified for the 2014 Olympics as an independent I have a lot of knowledge to share about making things happen without the aid of the National team.
Also some Canadian halfpipe riders and I have formed an organization called HalfpipeCAN. We are going to help build up halfpipe again in Canada. Check out our site and sign up to our newsletter http://halfpipecan.com
